With the new SMS widget, your AI assistants can interact directly with users via SMS. This feature requires a Twilio phone number and can be leveraged within the Tools section to send SMS messages through your assistants or forms.
Twilio Account
- Generate a Twilio account API Keys: https://www.twilio.com/docs/iam/api-keys#create-an-api-key
Once you follow the steps, you should have generated a pair of account SID and a secret key.
- Get a Twilio Phone Number: https://help.twilio.com/articles/223135247-How-to-Search-for-and-Buy-a-Twilio-Phone-Number-from-Console
You should now have a Twilio phone number ready to be used by your AI assistant.
Setting Up Twilio
1. To set up Twilio, go to the Tools section under AI Agents from the sidebar. Click on the Set Up button under Twilio to begin the integration process.
2. The Setup Your Tool dialog box appears. Click on Start New to initiate the configuration.
3. Enter a name for the integration. Next, input the Account SID and Auth Token you obtained while creating your account on Twilio. Click on Create.
4. Select the function for the integration (i.e., to send an SMS). Click on Save.
5. In the next step, choose the default phone number and click on Finish.

1. Using the SMS Tool with an Assistant
The SMS tool can be seamlessly connected to your chatbot or voice assistant. Once connected, you can trigger SMS messages at any point during a conversation. Follow these steps to set it up:
Step 1: Create a Chatbot Assistant
If you haven’t already created an assistant, please refer to our Chat or Phone assistant guide here: Quick Start : Insighto.ai
Step 2: Edit Your Assistant
Once your assistant is ready:
Navigate to the Operations Tab in your dashboard.
Click on Edit Assistant to open the assistant settings.
Step 3: Connect the SMS Tool
Go to the Tools Section within the assistant settings.
Click on Connect Tools and select the SMS Tool from the available options.
Step 4: Trigger the SMS Tool
To use the SMS tool during a conversation, you can prompt it with the following instruction:
Instruction Example:
Ask for their mobile number with the prefix +1 for the country code. If they mention its the same number, they are calling from then request them to confirm again.Use the available tool to send an SMS to the user with the following message: "Your Message Here."
This will send a real-time SMS to the user during the interaction.
2. Using SMS tool as widget
Navigate to the AI Agents section from the sidebar. Click on the Widgets tab and select the Add a Widget button.
In the Add a Widget dialog box, enter the following details:
- Name: Enter a name for your widget.
- Assistant: Choose the assistant from the dropdown menu that you created in the previous steps.
- Description: Enter a suitable description for your widget.
- Widget Type: Select SMS.
- Twilio Tool Configuration: Select the tool configuration name you entered in Step 3.
- Phone Number: Choose your Twilio phone number from the dropdown list.
Click on Submit.
